The Founding Fathers of the Chi Eta Chapter of Phi Gamma Delta, founded May 1, 2010.

It was a very surreal moment on Saturday May 1st, 2010.  For the Phi Gamma Delta Chi Eta chapter, the past 18 months had been a time of trials and tribulations but also a time of strong bonding and brotherhood.  With all founding members at the Topper Club the night of May 1st, 18 months of memories flashed before their eyes as the drape over the Phi Gamma Delta Chi Eta charter was unveiled with a roaring applause from everyone in the room.  Chapter President, Chaz Vittitow, accepted the charter from the fraternity legate, Ben Harper, with a smile on his face bright enough to put even the thunder and lightning of the stormy night to shame.  It was a very surreal moment for the WKU Fiji’s but well deserved and appreciated.

The whole chartering weekend was a great success for the Chi Eta chapter.  On Friday, April 30th, the men hosted an ”Evening with the Fijis” open house in the Kentucky Room of the Kentucky Building.  It was a pleasant evening where parents, fellow Greek members, and WKU faculty and staff to come enjoy the celebration.  Members from other Phi Gamma Delta chapters joined from schools such as Kentucky, Purdue, Evansville, Tennessee Tech and Wabash.  The Fijis were also honored to have speakers Gary Wiser, Drew Martin, Howard Bailey, Charley Pride, Executive Director of Phi Gamma Delta, Bill Martin, and key note speaker, WKU President Gary Ransdell.  It was a great moment for the members of the Chi Eta chapter but most of all was their chance to say thankyou to all the people from the WKU and Bowling Green communities that had helped them achieve this great honor.

The banquet of receiving the charter for the Chi Eta chapter took place in the Topper Club of L.T. Smith Stadium on the evening of May 1st.  May 1st is especially significant to Phi Gamma Delta as it was the day the first chapter of Phi Gamma Delta was founded in 1848 at Jefferson College in Cannonsburg, PA.  The men of Phi Gamma Delta were looking very sharp in their tuxedos and each man was privileged to have a beautiful lady to accompany them at the banquet.  Though it was one of the heaviest rainfalls of the year, the banquet was too long awaited to let anything stop the festivities.  Bill Martin, executive director of Phi Gamma Delta, was the Master of Ceremonies and the banquet also was honored by the speaking of Vice President of Student Affairs, Howard Bailey, and Phi Gamma Delta Archon President, Bill Miller.  It was truly a night to remember as the Topper Club was filled with brothers and their dates, parents, and several people from the WKU community, to join in the celebration of an exceptional group of men achieving a long awaited goal.

Thank you to all who took part in the weekends festivities and also to those who helped along the way.  Phi Gamma Delta at WKU accomplished a wonderful goal but will continue to seek guidance and help from others in its pursuit to be excellent in all areas.

This will be a very exciting weekend for the colony as the men are installed into the Fraternity and the chapter receives its charter.  The highlight of the weekend will be the Chartering Banquet and Norris Pig Dinner, being held on May 1st at 6pm at the Houchens-Smith Stadium Topper Club.  We are honored to have Archon President Bill Miller as the keynote speaker for this event.
