President’s Letter

Tyler Jury, Chapter President
Welcome to the Chi Eta chapter of Phi Gamma Delta at Western Kentucky University! I hope you will find your experience with our fine, distinct group of young men to be as rewarding and encouraging as I have. As a member of this chapter for over two years, I have been blessed with the opportunity to be affiliated with young men who share common goals and aspirations to reach their fullest potential. Due to my involvement in the Chi Eta chapter of Phi Gamma Delta I can confidently and wholeheartedly say that this experience has been one that has enriched my college experience in ways that the classroom environment cannot offer. Our men and the essence of Phi Gamma Delta are a part of my life that if you take the time to learn about and become invested in, I think you will come to appreciate and hold in the highest regard.
We strive to uphold five core values: Friendship, Knowledge, Service, Morality and Excellence. To give you a brief overview of our mission as an organization I would like to highlight each of these values and how Chi Eta incorporates these into our young men’s college experience:
Friendship- We thrive on brotherhood. The relationships built as a result of our fraternity are ones that will last a lifetime. Through brotherhood events such as the annual Gatlinburg “Weekend in the Mountains”, weekly basketball games at the gym, scheduled dinners or casual movie nights at the chapter house, we encourage one another to seek out the unique opportunities offered in the collegiate atmosphere.
Knowledge- Brothers in our chapter hold scholarship in the highest regard. Since our arrival at WKU as a colony in October 2008, we have achieved the highest fraternity GPA every semester. For the Fall 2010 semester our chapter GPA was a 3.452, while the WKU All-Men’s Average was a 2.510. Through our prestigious scholarship program and affiliation with fellow young men who want to be successful we encourage our brothers and challenge them to pursue their education first.
Morality- All men in Chi Eta hold themselves to a high standard. College can often be a time where many people fall into temptation, but through our dedication to the founding principles of our fraternity and the accountability provided through unique friendships we offer an experience that provides an opportunity for everyone to succeed and reach their highest potential during these college years. By putting one another first and seeking to honor God through our actions, our fraternity attempts to create a unique experience within a community that is so often viewed in a negative light. Through house bible studies, weekly book study groups, a church accountability system (all of these are of course optional- our chapter does not discriminate based upon religious background), and many members who are interested in discussing their faith, we encourage and challenge one another to develop into men that are ready to be mature, fully-functioning and effective members in society once their collegiate years end.
Excellence- Being founded in October 2008 as a colony at WKU, we have worked diligently over the past two and a half years to become a strong presence on campus. On May 1, 2010, after only 18 months on campus, our colony received its official charter from the International Fraternity. Before our 2-year anniversary for the Fall 2010 term, we dedicated our chapter house (commonly known as “Fort Armstrong”). On June 1, 2010, our chapter purchased an old home on College Street. Thanks to the dedication of parents, graduates and brothers alike, we were able to complete extreme renovations that allowed us to have a place to call “home”. Chi Eta continues to set our sights high and strive to reach the top. Realizing that our mission is to seek to offer an environment that enhances the college experience for young men, we approach this experience with a spirit of humility and are always looking to improve.
I certainly appreciate you taking the time to learn a little more about our unique group of men. If you have any questions or would like to talk to me personally about my experience with the Chi Eta chapter of Phi Gamma Delta and what it can mean for you, please feel free to contact me via email at tyler.jury@gmail.com.
Sincerely,
Tyler Jury
