The purpose of Pledge Education is to prepare men for membership in Phi Gamma Delta. This educational period serves as a time of mutual evaluation between prospective members and brothers. Along the way prospective members will learn about chapter and fraternity organization and operations, as well as the ideals and values of the Fraternity. The vision of Pledge Education is to incorporate pledges into the chapter as contributing members while guiding them into bonds of friendship with initiated brothers.
- Pledge Class Retreat – a time where the pledge class can grow together as a class while working together towards common goals. Past retreats have featured guest speakers, team building exercises, and an overnight camping trip.
- International Headquarters of Phi Gamma Delta Visit – pledges take a tour of IHQ in Lexington, KY where they are informed of the operations of the International Fraternity as well as Phi Gam history through the in-house museum.
- Big Brother Program – each pledge is assigned a mentor, or Big Brother. Big Brothers meet with their Little Brothers, the pledges, on a weekly basis in order to help them acclimate to the Fraternity on a personal level. Big Brother-Little Brother friendships are some of the strongest in the Fraternity.
- Weekly Meetings – The Pledge Education committee meets on a weekly basis with the pledge class as a whole in order to teach pledges what it means to be a Phi Gam. Meetings are organized to resemble chapter meetings in order to provide a seamless transition upon initiation. Guest speakers are featured on a weekly basis.
Above all else we hope to provide a positive experience in which prospective members are able to learn, share experiences, develop friendships, and, ultimately, initiate into the Chi Eta Chapter at Western Kentucky University.
